Triage Functions

• Prioritize patient care based on triage protocols, assessing the severity of injuries and medical urgency.
• Make quick and accurate assessments of both physical and mental health conditions.
• Document medical history accurately and thoroughly.
• Checks for allergies and current medications.
• Obtain crucial metrics such as height, weight, body temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.

Ongoing Care Functions

• Plays an active role in all patient care within their scope of practice by working as part of a healthcare team to perform required patient interventions, including assessing needs, planning and modifying care, and implementing interventions.
• Prepare patients for examinations, tests, or treatments and assist physicians with procedures, as necessary.
• Utilize training and patient care skills to promote patient cooperation, reduce patient anxieties, and create positive patient experience.
• Assist with room maintenance, patient flow, takes vital signs, and communicate effectively to coordinate patient care across all provider disciplines.
• Utilize electronic and hard copy documentation systems to document and report all care provided to patients including assessments, procedures, interventions, adverse reactions and to reflect implementation of the nursing process.
• Administer medication (oral, injectable, inhaled, and topical) according to industry standards and facility medication administration policies.
• Assist with patient education regarding illness, injury diagnosis, etc. to promote positive patient outcomes and continued recovery.
• Operate facility equipment in strict adherence to manufacturer’s instructions and facility policies and procedures including completing regular and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, notifying appropriate personnel of needed repairs, etc.

Laboratory Functions

• Performs all physician-ordered laboratory tests, including analyzing bodily fluids (e.g., blood, urine, and tissue samples) and documents findings in patients’ medical records.
• Discusses laboratory test results and findings with physicians to assist in patient diagnosis and care planning.
• Operates laboratory equipment in strict adherence to manufacturer’s instructions and facility policies, including performing regular and preventative maintenance.
• Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions, notifying appropriate personnel for repairs, and analyzes laboratory data when results are unreasonable given clinical conditions to determine necessary adjustments or further interventions.
• Maintains appropriate inventory levels of laboratory supplies, monitoring usage, and reporting needs to ensure availability.
• Adheres to safety protocols in the laboratory, maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
• Documents quality control activities, maintain daily logs and equipment record books.
• Keeps abreast of state-specific regulations, including compliance with CLIA and COLA standards.
• Understands and follows the process for sending out tests that can or should not be performed in-house.
• Maintaining professional and technical knowledge of laboratory policies, procedures, and safety standards by participating in continuing education.

Professional Development and Compliance

• Complies with all HIPAA regulations.
• Adheres to industry standards and facility safety program and follows safety rules and procedures, including the proper handling and disposal of sharps and biohazard materials.
• Participate in drills and skills fairs as part of annual evaluations to further TEC’s compliance with QAPI and safety goals.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by participating in continuing education, reviewing professional publications, and involvement in professional societies as required by licensing board.
• Maintains current state Registered Nurse license free of disciplinary action. Also maintains current required certifications.

Administrative Duties

• Maintains appropriate par levels of inventory within the facility by monitoring and reporting inventory supply to appropriate personnel.
• Helps maintain a clean environment within the facility, including patient care areas, waiting areas, lounges, storage areas and offices.
• Thinks critically and actively seek ways to improve processes and create a better work environment within the scope of their position.
• Completes required orientation as directed by facility policies and procedures.
• Promotes The Emergency Center culture and actively works to achieve company goals and initiatives.
• Arrives punctually and remains for the duration of all assigned/confirmed shifts per The Emergency Center’s policies and procedures.
