Job Summary:

The Lead Radiologic Technologist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of patient care, imaging quality, and operational efficiency. This position is responsible for overseeing all radiology and laboratory processes, policies, and procedures, acting as a subject matter expert and resource for the Radiologic Technologist team. The Lead Radiologic Technologist ensures compliance with TEC and state regulations, manages staff development, maintains equipment, and coordinates with vendors and inspectors. As the Radiation Safety Officer, this role ensures safety protocols are rigorously followed. Additionally, the Lead Radiologic Technologist oversees scheduling, quality assurance, and training, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in imaging services.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

 

Clinical Leadership and Operations

  • Enthusiastically accepts and endorses TEC’s core values of Do Something Good, Empathy, Zeal, and Accountability.
  • Performs all Essential functions of a Radiologic Technologist as described on the Radiologic Technologist Job Description.
  • Analyzes and improves workflow procedures to maximize efficiency and evenly distribute workload among staff.
  • Manages communications and coordination with the physicist and other vendors providing radiology services (e.g., plane films, ultrasound, X-ray, CT readings, DICOM interfaces).
  • Oversees radiology and laboratory projects and preventative maintenance for all equipment, sourcing and coordinating with vendors as necessary.
  • Creates and maintains equitable Radiologic Technologist schedules at least one month in advance – limiting overtime and ensuring all shifts are covered, coordinates coverage for unexpected absences, and serves as a last resort for coverage if no other coverage can be found. Obtains approval for any team overtime.
  • Regularly attends and contributes to department, leadership, and other requested meetings, discussing radiology and lab operations and providing suggestions for quality and efficiency improvements.
  • Acts as or designates an emergency contact who can be physically onsite in case of emergency or unsafe situations. Additionally, is available as an emergency contact remotely for questions and as a resource.

 

Compliance and Quality Assurance

  • Ensures compliance with all radiology-related inspections and reviews, acting as the liaison with inspectors and compliance boards.
  • Ensures all Radiologic Technologists maintain current required licenses and certifications.
  • Ensures facility compliance with TEC and State radiologic policies and procedures.
  • Oversees all radiology QA and QI processes at the facility.
  • Oversees all CT protocols.

 

Staff Management and Development

  • Develops a team of “A Players” by assisting with interviewing, hiring, onboarding, orienting, training, counseling, and terminating team members according to company policies and procedures.
  • Creates and maintains training and onboarding materials, ensuring new hires are fully trained within established timeframes and conducts ongoing training as needed.
  • Acts as the key resource and subject matter expert for the team. Creates a safe environment for staff to ask questions and bring up concerns.
  • Promotes employee growth by conducting monthly touch base meetings focused on engendering trust and building relationships, identifying areas for improvement, and creating personal growth plans.
  • Ensures team compliance with company and department objectives, policies, and procedures. Addresses performance and values issues promptly by conducting G.R.O.W. conversations.
  • Participates in resolving employee conflicts. Provides mediation, correction, guidance, and feedback in conjunction with human resources in a timely manner when necessary.
  • Conducts effective, efficient team meetings as needed. Prepares and follows agendas, encourages team participation, recognizes, and follows up on action items, and forwards meeting notes to leadership as requested.

 

Radiation Safety Officer

  • Serves as the Radiation Safety Officer in accordance with Texas Administrative Code (TAC) 289.256.
  • Establishes and oversees safety, emergency, and ALARA policies and procedures, reviewing them annually for compliance with TAC.
  • Ensures that required radiation surveys and lead tests are performed and documented, including any corrective measures when levels of radiation exceed established limits.
  • Ensures that individual monitoring devices are used properly by occupationally exposed personnel, that records are kept of the monitoring results, and that timely notifications are made.
  • Investigates and reports each known or suspected case of radiation exposure to an individual, radiation levels detected in excess of limits, radioactive material release into the environment, and theft or loss of radiation source(s). Determines the cause(s) and takes steps to prevent a recurrence.
  • Assumes control and initiates, recommends, or provides corrective actions including shutdown of operations, when necessary, in unsafe or emergency situations.
  • Identifies areas of radiation safety concern; determines and implements corrective actions.
  • Ensures proper records are kept and maintained.
  • Ensures the proper storing, labeling, transport, use, and disposal of sources of radiation, storage, and/or transport containers.
  • Ensures that inventories are performed in accordance with TDH requirements for freestanding ERs.
  • Ensures that personnel are complying with all state and licensing regulations, and operating, safety, and emergency procedures.
  • Serves as the primary contact for state agencies.

 

Laboratory Supervisor

  • Assists with creating and maintaining laboratory policies and procedures, ensuring updates are distributed to staff in a timely manner.
  • Oversees laboratory protocols, QA, and QI processes at the facility and ensures compliance with TEC and State policies and procedures.
  • Conducts laboratory training for new and existing staff and oversees and coordinates laboratory projects.
  • Serves as point of contact with the lab consultant.
  • Schedules and responds to State and other required inspections and acts as a liaison with inspectors and compliance boards.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for laboratory policies and procedures.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education:Education


Required: Graduate of accredited School of Radiology
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college in physical science, engineering, or biological science

Required: A minimum of five years of experience as a Dual Modality Radiologic Technologist

Work Environment:

This position operates in an emergency room environment. Radiologic Technologists are required to perform with precision and efficiency, even during emergent situations. The role demands frequent physical activities such as standing, walking, grasping, carrying, reaching, bending, and stooping, along with routine heavy lifting using safe lifting procedures. It may involve lifting or turning patients.

 

Responsibilities include extensive use of advanced diagnostic imaging equipment, necessitating fine motor skills, finger dexterity, and excellent hand-eye coordination. There is also occasional sedentary work, such as entering data on computers, answering telephones, and communicating with team members.

 

The emergency room setting exposes staff to bodily fluids, infectious specimens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and medicinal preparations. Strict adherence to health and safety protocols are mandatory to mitigate these risks.

 

Team collaboration is critical, and effective communication within the multidisciplinary team is essential to ensure high-quality patient care. Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
