Job Summary:

Radiologic Technologists at The Emergency Center are at the forefront of providing critical diagnostic services. This position is essential for the accurate and timely diagnosis of medical conditions and supporting our emergency team in delivering effective patient care. Through expert imaging practices with x-rays, computed tomography (CT), accurate laboratory studies, and patient-centered care, you will play a pivotal role in facilitating rapid treatment decisions and enhancing patient recovery.

Radiological Functions

  • Operates radiological equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions and facility protocols, including maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Performs radiological procedures as ordered by physicians, minimizing patient discomfort and radiation exposure using appropriate techniques and safety measures.
  • Produces high-quality radiographs following industry standards and manufacturer’s instructions, adjusting techniques based on results as needed.

 

Laboratory Functions

  • Performs all physician-ordered laboratory tests, including analyzing bodily fluids (e.g., blood, urine, and tissue samples) and documents findings.
  • Discusses laboratory test results and findings with physicians and nurses to assist in patient diagnosis and care planning.
  • Operates laboratory equipment in strict adherence to manufacturer’s instructions and facility policies, including performing regular and preventative maintenance.
  • Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and notifies appropriate personnel for repairs.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory levels of laboratory supplies, monitoring usage, and reporting needs to ensure availability.
  • Adheres to safety protocols in the laboratory, maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Documents quality control activities, maintains daily logs and equipment record books.
  • Troubleshoots and analyzes data when laboratory results are unreasonable given the clinical conditions.
  • Keeps abreast of state-specific regulations, including compliance with CLIA and COLA standards.
  • Understands and follows the process for sending out tests that can or should not be performed in-house.

 

Patient Care

  • Assists physicians and nurses with all aspects of patient care within their scope of practice, including preparing patients for examinations, vital signs, room maintenance and managing patient flow.
  • Documents and reports all procedures and interventions provided.
  • Utilizes training and patient care skills to promote patient cooperation, reduce patient anxieties, and create a positive patient experience.
  • Communicates effectively to facilitate coordination of patient care among all provider disciplines.

 

Professional Development and Compliance

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge related to radiology and laboratory policies, procedures, and safety standards through continuing education and training and active participation in professional societies.
  • Ensures all required licenses and certifications are up-to-date and in good standing.
  • Complies with all HIPAA regulations.
  • Adheres to industry standards and facility safety program and follows safety rules and procedures, including the proper handling and disposal of sharps and biohazard materials.
  • Participates in drills and skills fairs.

 

Administrative Duties

  • Maintains appropriate par levels of inventory within the facility by monitoring and reporting inventory supply to appropriate personnel.
  • Helps maintain a clean environment within the facility, including patient care areas, waiting areas, lounges, storage areas and offices.
  • Thinks critically and actively seeks for ways to improve processes and create a better work environment within the scope of their position.
  • Completes required orientation as directed by facility policies and procedures.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education:Education


Required: Associate Degree (two-year college or technical school)
Required: Graduate of accredited School of Radiology

Experience Experience


Required: A minimum of one year as a practicing X-Ray and computed tomography
Preferred: Previous experience in an outpatient facility or hospital preferred.

Work Environment:

This position operates in an emergency room environment. Radiologic Technologists are required to perform with precision and efficiency, even during emergent situations. The role demands frequent physical activities such as standing, walking, grasping, carrying, reaching, bending, and stooping, along with routine heavy lifting using safe lifting procedures. It may involve lifting or turning patients.

 

Responsibilities include extensive use of advanced diagnostic imaging equipment, necessitating fine motor skills, finger dexterity, and excellent hand-eye coordination. There is also occasional sedentary work, such as entering data on computers, answering telephones, and communicating with team members.

 

The emergency room setting exposes staff to bodily fluids, infectious specimens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and medicinal preparations. Strict adherence to health and safety protocols are mandatory to mitigate these risks.

 

Team collaboration is critical, and effective communication within the multidisciplinary team is essential to ensure high-quality patient care. Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
